OVERVIEW

Sandon Manor is a large wedding venue in the southeast of England. Its goal is to become energetically self-sufficient, with all of its annual energy consumption provided from on-site sources. JGC undertook detailed monitoring of the site’s energy consumption to determine the solar PV and battery storage capacity required to meet the client’s energy aspirations.



JGC developed proposals for the PV and battery storage system and worked alongside the installer, Infinite Heating & Energy, as the systems were installed. A key element of the project was to maximise the on-site utilisation of the PV array by installing a high-capacity battery system with an electrical storage capacity of >100kWh. This enabled the storage of excess generation during the day for use at evening events, with the selected storage capacity informed by our earlier monitoring of the site’s energy consumption. An expandable battery storage system was specified to enable the client to increase battery capacity in the future. The PV system was completed in early 2025.

Additionally, JGC provided MEP design services for the redevelopment of an existing barn into a new, low-energy accommodation building for wedding guests. The Wheat Barn will utilise air-source heat pumps to provide heating, hot water, and cooling, with a rooftop PV system to deliver renewable electricity.
