We provide Electrical, Mechanical and Public Health (MEP) design and consultancy services for projects in the built environment.

As technological advancements, evolving policies, and economic shifts redefine building requirements, we leverage insights from our extensive portfolio of completed projects to help clients align their immediate needs with long-term strategic goals. At JGC, our specialists utilise CFD, thermal and 3D modelling to ensure our recommendations and designs are tailored to the unique demands of every project, providing our clients with technical certainty and clarity in a changing environmental landscape.

Strategic Energy Masterplans

JGC provide strategic energy masterplans ranging from individual buildings through to wider portfolio and estate planning. We assist our clients in developing practical, feasible implementation strategies tailored to project timescales, budgets, and constraints. We understand that every building is unique, and we work with our clients to develop feasibility studies through to completed projects.

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering

We provide comprehensive mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) design services across the full lifecycle of a project, from Strategic Definition through to Handover and Post-Occupancy (RIBA Stages 0–7). Our multi-disciplinary engineers bring extensive experience and technical expertise across all aspects of MEP design. Where required, we also deliver Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3D coordination services, ensuring our designs reflect the practical constraints and operational requirements of each building or site.

Refurbishment and Retrofit

A fundamental objective of JGC is to enhance the comfort and energy performance of existing buildings through retrofit. This spans from the integration of on-site renewable generation, and the implementation of low-carbon heating solutions through to improving air quality, lighting and system controls. We understand that every retrofit project is uniquely challenging, and we have extensive experience in seeing these projects through the feasibility stage, detailed design, planning and construction.

Heat Pumps

JGC is committed to electrifying the built environment by delivering low-carbon heating, hot water, and cooling solutions. As a practice, we have supported the feasibility, planning, design and delivery of a wide range of heat pump projects, including ground, river and air source systems, ranging from small-scale 5kW domestic installations to 15MW centralised heat network schemes. While heat pumps play a key role in the transition to electrified building services, we recognise that no single solution is suitable for every project. Our approach is centred on providing clients with carefully considered project-specific strategies that address the unique opportunities and constraints of each building.

Interfacing Buildings with Wider Infrastructure

The modern built environment is increasingly complex, with larger developments requiring the careful integration of building services and wider infrastructure networks. At JGC, we seek to maximise the potential of each site by identifying opportunities to connect with surrounding energy and utility infrastructure.

Our experience includes developing engineering solutions for both single-site and district-scale heat networks, as well as designing community microgrids and distributed electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We work closely with clients to deliver integrated, future-focused energy strategies which align their immediate requirements with long-term strategic goals.

Building Physics and CFD Modelling

Assessing the impact of low-carbon heating systems within constrained or densely developed urban environments can be complex, particularly for large-scale schemes serving local or district heat networks. Where greater design certainty is required, JGC provides bespoke building physics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to inform, refine and optimise system performance from the earliest stages of a project.

Environmental Engineering

A truly sustainable building is one that people want to spend time in. JGC delivers environmental engineering solutions that balance comfort, well-being, and performance through the design of natural and mechanical ventilation systems, overheating mitigation, and natural and artificial lighting strategies. Combining advanced computational modelling with practical onsite experience, our engineers help shape buildings that perform efficiently while creating environments that occupants actively enjoy using.
