Regent Terrace, Cambridge
MEP Design Services for Apartments
Client: Portnal & London Ltd.
Status: Completed
OVERVIEW
The Regent’s Terrace development comprises six residential apartments and shared amenity spaces, located directly adjacent to Parker's Piece in central Cambridge. JGC were appointed to develop the scheme to RIBA Stage 3 planning and to produce the employer’s requirements for the specification of mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) services. The scheme was taken on by Regent Construction as the appointed main contractor, with works completed in 2024.
The scheme incorporated an electric-only strategy for space heating and hot water generation. Solar PV was installed on the building's roof to maximise on-site generation in keeping with Cambridge City Council's targets. Each apartment was designed with a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) system to improve air quality and improve the building’s thermal performance. The strategy of using MVHR was also dictated by the scheme's acoustic requirements, which required a method for supplying fresh air to the apartments without opening windows onto the noisier street side at night.
