JGC undertook surveys of the church and grounds to understand how the heating and hot water systems are currently supplied and how they could be adapted to best suit lower-temperature heat from an air-source heat pump-led system. Our surveys involved visual inspection of the existing pipework arrangements and routes, assessment of the existing heat emitters, checks of the electrical utility supplies and the infrastructure currently serving the building.

We worked with the church to develop an outline for an options appraisal of how the existing systems might best be adapted, and to identify the key considerations, opportunities, and risks to take the project forward. Our work focused on a key driver: retaining as much of the existing infrastructure as possible to best protect the original building’s character and historical significance as a place of worship in the community.
