Matthew Waterson

Matthew graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2017 with a MEng degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. He then joined the design team of Breathing Buildings, a Cambridge-based manufacturer of pioneering hybrid and natural ventilation systems.

After several years at Breathing Buildings, Matthew returned to the University of Cambridge to pursue a PhD in mathematical modelling of hybrid ventilation flows in buildings. He completed his award-winning thesis in December 2024 and, alongside his studies, was the lead author of research papers published in the Building Services Engineering Research and Technology journal, one of which won the 2025 CIBSE Dufton Silver Medal for fundamental research.

Matthew joined JGC in February 2025 and has been enjoying putting his academic and industrial experience to good use in designing low-energy, low-carbon systems.

Matthew has expertise in the design of natural and hybrid ventilation systems and is also experienced with IESVE for dynamic thermal modelling of buildings.
